The Gospel of Christ

There are many passages of scripture that the masses can readily quote.  One of the most well-known verses in the entire Bible is Romans 1:16.  It says, in part, that “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes.”  There is such a simple truth contained in this powerful statement.  A nugget of truth that can ensure each and every one of us the victory in our life that we so eagerly desire.  But, like any other Kingdom reality, we must appropriate it in our lives to see God’s best manifest.  To do that, we have to truly get a revelation of what it means.

“Christ” is not Jesus’ last name.  The word literally means “the anointed one” and also contains in it the anointing that goes with Him.  An easier way would be to say that Christ means “the anointed one and His anointing.”  When the Bible talks about the believer being “in Christ” or in “the Body of Christ”, it is not referring to us being in Jesus, the person, as much as it is referring to us dwelling in His anointing and all of the benefits and results it carries with it.

So, then, what does “anointing” mean?  Most people would say things like “Oh, anointing is one of those spiritual words and I don’t understand it.”  They just brush it off and chalk it up to something that they can never understand.  The Bible is clear about it, though.  We can look to Isaiah 10:27 and see that the anointing is the Godly force that can take burdens from off of your shoulder and destroy yokes of bondage in your life.  I like to say that the anointing is “the burden removing, yoke destroying power of God.”

Basically, if you are a believer, God doesn’t want you to be weighed down in life.  He doesn’t want you to have things in your life that are a burden to you or that are a yoke of bondage that the enemy has placed in your life to weigh you down and keep you from running your Kingdom race with confidence.  No way!  He wants you to be free to be effective for the Kingdom and readily see the results that He has ordained for you.

No wonder Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30 that we should rest in Him.  He said we can experience this rest because His yoke is easy and His burden is light.  You think it was a coincidence that He used those words... yoke and burden?  I don’t!  He is THE CHRIST... the anointed one!  There is no yoke or burden that can stand in His presence and, guess what?  You are in Christ!  You are right in the place where burdens and yokes lose their authority.

So then, now Romans 1:16 can make perfect sense.  It is powerful when we understand that we have an assurance that keeps us from shame.  Why?  Because there is no shame when you are in Christ!  There is nothing in that anointed place that can keep you from the victorious life you were created to live.

So, today, simply rest in that good news.  That’s why Paul called it the gospel of Christ.  Gospel means good news, and there is no better news that I can think of than to know that I belong in the place where burdens are removed, yokes are destroyed, and I can be complete!  That makes it the “power of God to salvation.”  Anything you can think of today that you need “saved from”, whether it is disharmony in relationships, poor health, or condemnation from the enemy, the answer lies in knowing who you are IN CHRIST!

Rest in that today.  Rest in Him today.  You are in Christ and there is no better place to live!
