Where Faith Begins

Perhaps you have been in church for a while. Maybe you have heard a sermon or two about faith or living a life of faith. Well, lately the Lord has been bringing me back to the basics on a lot of things. If we are not cautious, we can constantly be looking for new revelation and be tempted to build that third or fourth story on your “faith building” and not ever realize that the foundation wasn’t as solid as you thought that it was.

So, what is the most basic thing I could tell you about faith? If I could only share one truth that could start you down the path to living a solid life of faith built on a the most solid foundation possible, I would share this statement:

“Faith begins where the will of God is known.”

Seems simple, huh? But, unfortunately, many people never get this concept. They hear sermons about making sure you hear the Word because, of course, faith comes by hearing the Word of Christ and His finished work. They hear sermons about how important it is to confess the Word. They hear the significance of how God uses faith and we need to live our lives like He lives. They know that without faith, it is impossible to please God. And I could go on and on and on and on!

But, most believers never understand the most basic concept that faith begins where the will of God is known. What does that mean? We need to first establish that faith is based on promises. If I promised you that I would pay your rent this month and you knew that 1) I had the money to do it, and 2) I was a man of my word, then you could absolutely rest in the fact that I would come through. Why? Because I said that I would. That tells you what my WILL is in that scenario. It is my desire. What I want to do for you and what I committed to in your life. And, consequently, you would BELIEVE me. You would TRUST that I would do it. You would be totally at REST and have no room for any outside care, fear, or worry about that issue. You would have FAITH in me. But not just in me… in my WORD.

Well, the same is true with God. We need to get to a place where we know what His Word says. More importantly, what His WILL is toward you and me as believers. When the will of God is KNOWN in our lives, we have a solid anchor point to tie onto. No matter what is going on around us in life, we are secure in what we believe because we know God’s will.

That is where faith begins. You don’t have to have some mind-blowing new revelation in order to have faith. All you need to comprehend is the timeless truth of what He said in His Word thousands of years ago. You just need to know the will of God for your life and rest in it. Trust in it. Believe in it. That is the simplicity of faith.

See that simplicity today. Don’t complicate it or put limitations on it. Don’t place undue burdens on yourself or disqualify yourself with a religious mindset.

Just hear His Word and believe it with child-like trust.  When you do, I know beyond any doubt that you will run into your destiny full speed ahead. I might be able to pay your rent next month, but God has the supply for EVERYTHING you could possibly ever need. Not just material supply, either. He has every bit of the fruit of the Spirit that you need, and all the intangibles that far outweigh money or other material provision.

He has offered it all to you. Receive it and be all that He has called you to be today!
